Welcome to Brian Oh's SCA page.
Introduction
Millions of people around the world are affected by Sickle Cell Disease. It is more commonly found in people that are of African, South East Asian, Southern Europe, or Central American descent. SCD is not the most deadly disease, but it can be potentially life threatening. Those who have this condition must live life with the burden of this disease. On this site you can find the resources you need to know the causes, effects, and treatments of SCD. (15) |
What is SCA?
SCA stands for Sickle Cell Anemia. It is a condition caused by the sickle cell disease (SCD). A mutation in the gene that produces hemoglobin causes irregular hemoglobin production. This causes the red blood cells to form in a "sickle" shape, thus the name of the disease. One can live with this disease, however there are many discomforts that come with this disease.
